Chapter 12: Ball Position (Again)

Pro Tips (from the book!)

• For the best chance of achieving the proper brush zone with a slightly downward swing, play the ball in the middle of your stance when hitting 6- through 9-irons. Longer irons (4-and 5-irons) can be played slightly forward of center; however, we advise the use of hybrids as a beginner.

• To get a visual and feel for proper ball position, place a club on the ground starting at the ball and extending between your feet. From here, line up the club to the front, middle and back of your stance with ease.

• By placing a tee in line with your front foot then trying to create the brush zone starting at that tee and extending just beyond, you can see how difficult it is to do that with the ball forward. You are more likely to lift or scoop at the ball rather than hit down through it. Placing the tee in the middle of your stance and trying to create the proper brush zone starting at the tee and extending out slightly is much easier.
